Ziji’s At-Home Learning Program (Spring 2020, and if necessary school year 2020-21)
There is a simple, yet quite ordinary magic we see in our days at Ziji, that indescribable thing that holds the space for us to be ourselves here, witnessing that in each other is so profound. But another part of the ordinary and magic of Ziji is learning to work with what we have, and learning the grit that comes from developing resilience...working with what we get, not necessarily what we want. We are all getting to practice that in spades now.
Being a small school we are able to be nimble and responsive, and this pandemic has given us ample opportunity to exercise those attributes. It has also provided us the opportunity to embrace uncertainty, quite a mixed blessing.
At the heart of Ziji is relationships. With our At Home Learning Program, the nature of those relationships have changed, but they are still crucial. As a play based, experiential school, finding a way to bring our school home has been a challenge. We’ve met this challenge with a program that combines hands on learning projects and crafts, Zoom classes, and special times to connect over Zoom and through the mail.
All children at the school have opportunities for daily interactions with their teachers and peers. Here are some of the elements of our At Home Learning Program:
